Bus travel just got easier

A busy bus route is to have its stops revamped to make life easier for the less mobile.

Route 42 which runs from Farnley to Fearnville will see improved layouts, raised kerbs and bus clearways at its stops. Thirty four bus stops will get the treatment which will enable buses to pull-up closer and at the same level as the kerbs to give easier access to and from the bus. Wheelchair users, people with mobility problems and parents with pushchairs will benefit from easier and safer journeys.

Metro will also make improvements to bus shelters at the same time by renewing all

shelter sites and upgrading stops which require shelters, ensuring they are safe and

have well lit waiting areas.

Cllr Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) said:

"These plans will make travelling easier and more accessible for everyone and is great for the people in my ward who rely on this service. Many people find getting on and off buses extremely difficult, especially if the bus is too far away from the kerb and this can be very dangerous.

"I hope this will encourage people to leave their cars at home, as well as making people who have no alternative to using buses more confident about doing so".
