Horsforth to benefit from garden waste roll-out

12.00.00am GMT Wed 18th Mar 2009

Environmental Services are continuing to roll out brown wheeled bins for the collection of garden waste. All suitable properties in the Newlaithes, Victoria & Newlay Wood area of Horsforth are set to benefit.

The first collection is scheduled for the week commencing Monday April 27th 2009 and the brown bins will be delivered the week prior to this.

Letters will be sent to the relevant households shortly to inform them of the scheme.

The scheme is designed to help reduce the amount of general waste which is sent to landfill. Since this scheme began in 2006 almost 18,500 tonnes of garden waste has been diverted from landfill.

Cllr. Brian Cleasby, (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said:

"Since the scheme started many residents have enjoyed the service, especially the frequency of collections. I am sure that the service will become a much valued one for this part of Horsforth. Saving trips to the "Tip", and encouraging more to enjoy gardening".

Cllr. Chris Townsley, (Lib Dem, Horsforth) added:

"A service like this will make gardening easier and improve our neighbourhoods.

"Anything that makes life easier and better will be welcome in Horsforth".
