Yeadon set for next stage of high street regeneration2.12.00pm GMT Mon 14th Jul 2008 Councillors in Yeadon have welcomed the announcement of the next stage of the regeneration of Yeadon High Street. Leeds City Council's Executive Board will be asked this week to approve funding of more than a quarter of a million pounds to carry out improvements to Town Hall Square. Nearly a million pounds has already been spent on the High Street in the first phase of the scheme. This has included road and footpath resurfacing; revamping street furniture in a 'heritage' style and the installation of CCTV cameras. Among the improvements that will be carried out in the second phase of the scheme are the creation of a new Yorkstone paved pedestrian area, a new bus stop, more benches and trees, and an information board. Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said: "I am delighted that we are moving apace with the regeneration of Yeadon High Street. The £1 million already invested has made the area safer and more attractive. "This additional funding will see Town Hall Square cater better for pedestrians, public transport users and other visitors and will also spruce up the street furniture. "I am very glad to see that the council is making regeneration cash available to outer areas and not just inner city Leeds."
