Compulsory purchase order for Sparrow Park

3.04.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 6th Jun 2008

This small overgrown park on Cardigan Road, opposite Spring Road, has been unkempt for many years as no owner has ever been identified. The last major work carried out on the park was undertaken by South Headingley Community Association a long time ago.

There are several options for improvements to the park and a display board has been created to allow residents to view these options. There will also be a leaflet, incorporating a feedback form so that residents can comment on the improvements they would like to see undertaken at Sparrow Park.

The boards will be on display in the garden of 7, Bainbrigge Road during the Headingley Open Gardens event on Sunday 8th June. For those who cannot attend the open gardens event, the information will be on display in Headingley Library from 9th to 16th June.

Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley), commented:

"We are pleased to confirm that the councillors have arranged for this land to be subject to a Compulsory Purchase Order and brought under council ownership and maintenance. This will allow us to invest in the park and bring it up to a standard that can be enjoyed by local residents."
