Councillor calls for return of paving

2.48.00pm GMT Mon 21st Apr 2008

A councillor is asking local people to help trace thieves who recently stole a section of pavement in Otley.

Cllr Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:

"The path, composed of yorkstone flags, was part of Church Lane in Otley.

This area is a well used route into town and one of the oldest footpaths in Otley. The thieves seem to have targeted an area which is out of sight and adjacent to a car park. This would allow them to remove the expensive flags quickly and easily.

I have spoken to highways about a replacement but because of the difficulty in obtaining suitable stone this may take some time.

We are trying to establish exactly when the theft took place and if anyone saw the lorry the thieves used. If anyone saw anything or has been offered a cheap yorkstone footpath could they please let us know."
