Local involvement in future parking plans12.00.00am GMT Thu 20th Mar 2008 Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) organised three drop-in sessions to discuss parking provision around Hyde Park and Woodhouse. Local residents were invited to discuss proposals for parking in the ward with councillors and officers. The meetings were well attended by a wide range of people and gave council officers much more of an insight into the real concerns of local people. On the whole, the proposed parking schemes in the area met with a favourable response. The drop-in sessions provided useful feedback that will be taken into consideration, before the final scheme is put forward for approval. Such participation means that when the scheme is finally implemented it will benefit as many local residents as possible. Councillor Penny Ewens, who called the meetings, said: "I think it was important that local residents were given the opportunity for consultation on parking around Hyde Park and Woodhouse and that is why I called for these meetings. The fact that so many people attended them, throughout the ward, highlights the level of concern there is about parking in the area. It affects all of us, however we choose to get to places of work, study, or spend our social time. I am pleased that the council officers have been able to take away such constructive feedback and I am looking forward to seeing the final scheme implemented in the not too distant future."
