Councillors in support of local community

12.00.00am GMT Mon 17th Mar 2008

Local Liberal Democrat councillors Brenda Lancaster, Richard Harker and Mark Harris have recently decided on the distribution of £5,700 of council funding, paid direct to projects and groups within Moortown.

Each year councillors are given an amount of money to distribute, at their discretion, within the community. The three Moortown councillors have deemed a wide range of organisations to be doing good work within the community, and as such are pleased to support the work they undertake.

Recipients have included residents associations, lunch groups provided by local churches, sports teams and groups and other charitable organisations. Some of the money is being used by groups to tackle environmental concerns in the area. The money can be used for any means, such as room hire, covering administration costs or providing extra services.

Speaking of the contributions, Brenda Lancaster said:

"It is great that, as local councillors, we are able to hand money out to such worthy causes. Whilst they may not always be large amounts they always make a difference.

I know my colleagues and I are all looking forward to witnessing the benefits of the money we have provided. Moortown has a great community spirit and anything we can do to further that must always be commended."
