Otley parking review gets go ahead

12.00.00am GMT Thu 13th Mar 2008

Otley Liberal Democrat Councillors Graham Kirkland, Ryk Downes and Colin Campbell have welcomed the decision of the City Councils Executive Board to include Otley in the first of the Town Centre car parking reviews.

"Otley, like many local centres has a major parking problem," said Cllr Kirkland. "We have been pressing for some time for the City Council to review local facilities and we are pleased that they have agreed with us that there needs to be a review."

"The review will look at current parking spaces along with the new provision that future development will bring," continued Cllr Campbell, "it will then go on to look at what extra provision the Town needs to keep it attractive and vibrant.

The Councillors see this as the first stage in a process which will involve everyone in deciding where and what sort of car parking is provided in Otley."

"The Council has undertaken a City wide review of parking," reports Cllr Downes. "On a series of impartial criteria Otley came out as one of the areas where parking pressures were greatest. The survey also revealed problems in Yeadon and we hope to have the town included in the next series of reviews."
