Olympics boost for Rothwell

12.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008

Sports facilities in Rothwell could be used by Olympic athletes training for the 2012 Olympic games.

Organisers of the 2012 games have recently published a guide to UK training facilities for the London Olympics. The guide will be circulated to athletes across the globe to help them prepare for the games.

Leeds City Council run Rothwell leisure centre is in the guide as a recommended training facility for boxing and fencing competitors.

Cllr Don Wilson (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:

"I am very pleased to hear that Rothwell leisure centre has been recommended for Olympic athletes to prepare for 2012.

"It is good to see that the benefits of the Olympics will not be restricted to London and I hope that we will see athletes from all over the world making use of the excellent facilities we have here."
