Million Pound Boost for Yeadon8.00.00am GMT Mon 4th Feb 2008 Local Liberal Democrat Councillors, Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Graham Kirkland have welcomed the decision by the City Council's Executive Board to approve another £940,000 funding for the regeneration of Yeadon High Street. This forms part of a total investment of £1,078,040 in the scheme. Cllr Graham Kirkland (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said :- "For far too many years Yeadon High Street has been neglected and we have managed to persuade the Liberal Democrat led administration in Leeds to make regeneration of such areas a priority." "Last year we saw the allocation of £53,410 for three CCTV Cameras," continued Cllr Kirkland, "the latest funding will go towards landscaping, new pedestrian crossing points, 20mph speed limit, resurfacing the roads and extending pavements along with new street furniture. "A further £84,000 is planned to be spent on the area in front of the Town Hall which will be subject to planning permission." "If everything goes to plan then we hope work will have started on the main part of the scheme by May," says Cllr Ryk Downes, "with completion later in the year." "Across the whole of the Council's area we have made over £11.75 million available to support Town and District Centre Improvement Areas," says Cllr Colin Campbell, "and the Yeadon scheme is the largest in the whole of the City."
