A quiet corner of West Leeds is rapidly becoming a hotbed of budding TV talent.

Media-savvy pupils at Farsley Springbank Junior School have started running their own television station Springbank TV.

The station, which broadcasts to each pupil via their own interactive whiteboard, is scripted, produced and presented exclusively by the children themselves.

Executive board member for education Cllr Richard Harker has praised the exciting new initiative.

Councillor Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown) said:

"Springbank TV is a fantastic idea. The children are involved in every aspect of the broadcasting process; from the initial ideas stage to the filming and presenting of individual items.

"The media industry offers some fantastic career opportunities to young people but competition for places is fierce. Something like Springbank TV gives children at a young age a taste of the cut and thrust of the newsroom and develops skills that will help them in later life.
