Big money investment earmarked for Headingley

The council is set to invest over half a million pounds in Headingley.

£564k from the council's Town and District Centre fund will be spent on improving pedestrian crossings, replacing railings and bollards, new benches and bins and a revamp of the area's green spaces.

Local councillors James Monaghan and Martin Hamilton have welcomed the cash injection.

Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said: "As part of the works the war memorial will be getting a major makeover as will the area around St Michael's Church. Both the war memorial and the church are key landmarks here in Headingley and are well loved by local people for the character they bring to the area."

Councillor Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) added: "Cash for road safety measures will no doubt be welcomed by parents with young children who have to negotiate the school run through rush hour traffic. The additional bins will help keep the area tidy and the new street furniture will give people somewhere to relax and take in the hustle and bustle of Headingley life.
