Councillor Ryk Downes has welcomed an executive board report highlighting that the council has saved an additional £22m through rescheduling debt, savings in interest and cash flow.

Councillor Downes paid tribute to council staff at today's Full Council meeting for raising the cash in the face of increasing budgetary pressures.

Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said "Our treasury management team has brought in tens of millions of pounds in extra resources for the city. Without their efforts we would not have been able to increase council spending in key areas like social services and highways.

"As the lead member for corporate services last year I know how hard they work and they deserve the thanks of both the council and the people of Leeds for their success in raising these additional funds."
