Pupils from Weetwood Primary School have taken part in a nation-wide attempt to break the Guinness world record for the largest walking bus.

169 children of all ages walked a short route to the school under the supervision of their teachers, local councillor Judith Chapman and the executive board member for learning Cllr Richard Harker.

Both Cllr Chapman and Cllr Harker acted as the official adjudicators for the school's attempt.

Councillor Judith Chapman (Lib Dem, Weetwood) said, "The record attempt was a huge success. The children really enjoyed getting out in the fresh air and stretching their legs.

"The walking bus itself is a fantastic idea. It encourages road safety awareness and exercise, whilst at the same time reducing the children's carbon footprint."
