Residents oppose plans for mobile base station in East Leeds

12.00.00am GMT Tue 13th Mar 2007

291 people have signed a petition in opposition to plans for a mobile base station on the roof of Gipton Working Men's Club.

Concerned East Leeds residents presented local councillor Javaid Akhtar with the petition this Wednesday.

Councillor Akhtar has agreed to bring the petition to the attention of the council's planning chiefs.

Councillor Javaid Akhtar (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) said "With close to 300 signatures, this petition clearly shows that there is strong local opposition to the base station. Residents have asked me to present the petition to council planning officers on their behalf and I will make it plain that feelings are running high on this issue."
