Lib Dems win funding for alley gates in Moortown

12.00.00am GMT Mon 12th Mar 2007

Cllr Brenda Lancaster (Lib Dem, Moortown) has welcomed news that a formal consultation has now been launched over plans to close off ginnels in the Carrholms and Wensley Green areas of Moortown. The funding has been confirmed by the Inner North East Area Committee, now there is a final 28 day period for residents to comment on the proposals before they go ahead.

Cllr Lancaster said "Local residents have been asking for measures to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in this area and we've been supporting plans to close off some of the ginnels for the last two years. Now after many meetings and discussions with local people, as well as groups like the Leeds Local Access Forum and local footpath user groups, we have reached the final stages. Depending on responses to the final proposals the gates to close the ginnels off could be installed by the summer. This would allow local people to enjoy the full use of their properties without the worry of anti-social or criminal activity outside their back gardens."
