More PCSOs for Otley and Yeadon

12.00.00am GMT Mon 26th Feb 2007

At last week's meeting of Full Council, Cllr Colin Campbell spoke in favour of a plan for more PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) for Otley and Yeadon.

Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said, "We believe that PCSOs can make a valuable contribution to cutting crime, reducing anti-social behaviour and making people feel safer. Since the Liberal Democrat led coalition took control in Leeds we have introduced PCSOs to every ward in the city and by the end of this year both Otley and Yeadon should have at least five.

Cllr Campbell said he regretted the opposition to the scheme from Leeds Labour Councillors who said that far from increasing the number of local PCSOs would remove them from areas like Otley and Yeadon.

Councillor Campbell added "The extra officers patrolling the streets of Yeadon and Otley will make a valuable contribution to community safety."
