Council fines rogue landlords £12k

12.00.00am GMT Mon 12th Feb 2007

The council has clamped-down on 99 breaches of the code of conduct which restricts the use of To Let Boards in the Headingley. Rogue landlords have been hit by fines totalling nearly £12k since the restrictions came into force a year ago.

Councillor Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "The restrictions on the use of To Let boards in Headingley have largely been a success and the council has been quick to jump on those landlords that have flouted the rules. I am delighted that the council is taking such firm action and that it has been backed up by the courts."

Councillor James Monaghan added, "The old-style To Let signs are not only offensive to the eye but they highlight shared properties with expensive items to steal. The new boards flush to the side of properties, make Headingley look smarter and less like a community permanently in transition. "
