£3m boost for Otley Prince Henrys12.00.00am GMT Fri 2nd Feb 2007 Next week (09/02/07) council chiefs will approve a £3m investment in Otley Prince Henrys Grammar School. The money will be used to help develop a specialist science block and fund much-needed repairs to the school building. Last year, the school's hopes for the works appeared dashed, when the Government turned down a funding bid against the advice of its own Ofsted inspectors. In light of this, Leeds City council has invested £3m in Prince Henrys and allowed the school to re-invest the capital receipts of a recent sale of its Newall Annexe. Councillor Richard Harker, executive board member with responsibility for education, visited the school today to talk about the investment with Deputy Head teacher John Dean. Councillor Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown) said, "I was disappointed last year when the Government turned down a capital grant bid because they considered that the school was too successful to qualify. "I am therefore very pleased today that I can announce a major investment by Leeds City Council in a phased rebuild of the school. "Prince Henrys Grammar School has an international reputation for excellence that brings credit to Otley and Leeds."
