Councillors' Delight at 'Outstanding' St Nicholas

4.18.00pm GMT Fri 6th Oct 2006

A report to Leeds City Council's Executive Board next Wednesday (18th October) will show that St Nicholas Catholic Primary School has been rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Inspectors. Local Lib Dem Councillors Javaid Akhtar and Alan Taylor agree with the Inspectors that the school is extremely effective at promoting pupils' personal development and wellbeing.

Cllr Akhtar (Liberal Democrat, Gipton & Harehills) said "It's great to see St Nicholas' getting top marks in its inspection. The staff are superb, doing a huge amount to help the pupils to develop both academically and 'into mature and confident individuals' as the inspectors pointed out. This school is a real asset to our community."

Cllr Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) added "These are the kind of results that reinforce the view that Gipton is a community with lots of positive points in its favour. The staff and pupils have produced excellent results and we hope that this will continue."
