1.22.23pm GMT Thu 15th Dec 2005

The Outer South Area Committee has approved £12k worth of funding for two children's sports clubs in Oulton, Leeds. Funding for new equipment and kits is to be made available to both Oulton Cricket Club's Junior Section and Oulton Raiders Junior Rugby Club. Local Rothwell Councillor Steve Smith expressed his delight that the allocations have been approved.

Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) member of the Outer South Area Committee said "This latest allocation by the Area Committee is very welcome and a timely boost for both clubs. Sport and physical exercise is extremely important for the part it plays in building a youngster's confidence whilst helping them to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Both clubs provide an important outlet for the young people of south Leeds."

Note to Editors:

· Both the £4K for the cricket club and £8k for the rugby club will be provided by revenue from the Area Committee's Well Being fund.
